It seems like a new popular diet pops up every day. There are always people claiming that this or that diet helped them lose weight almost instantly...but more often than not, these claims stem more from fad than fact. I've never done much research into different diets, myself, but I imagine that anyone seriously trying to lose weight would be extremely frustrated sifting through the colossal number of diets available today.

So, as someone who has no vested interest in any one diet, and since nothing beats personal experience, I want to know, honestly: what diets have you tried? What has helped you find success? Which ones just aren't worth it, in your experience?

I have not tried one of the known diets myself. I usually will work out for at least an hour a day and then have balanced diet. My parents on the other hand have had great luck with diets. My dad lost 75 pounds on the Atkins diet. In my opinion it doesn't seem like a healthy diet, but to lose some weight quickly it works. He lost all of that weight in about 3 1/2 months. My mom lost 30 pounds on weight watchers. That diet seems to be a bit more healthy. It balances food through a point system.

I had 3 free lessons with a trainer and Lifestyle. He told me to eat every 3 hours. Eat within 1/2 hour of getting up. Even a little bit before going to bed. He said as we get older we lose muscle and has me do weights and and cardio. He said that is why metabolism slows. Weights 3 sets of 20. Went from 36 percent fat to 30 percent already. Just in 3 weeks. Muscle burns more calories. Feel much stronger. Don't have pain when I lift something heavy. The people are nice and friendly and try to help with suggestions on diet. Restaurant food is very fattening.

I have tried most of the "fad" diets out there. I am one of those people always looking for the easy way to lose weight without changing much of my habits. But what I have found in the past, and hope to reinstate in my life now, is that it is really just a balance of good exercise and staying within your caloric needs. I will say this: when I went on Atkins, I lost weight like crazy. But I was angry all the time! I need a little simple sugar to make life worth living. :) It is not a healthy diet by any means, but your body flushes fat like you wouldn't believe. So, after trying most of them, (Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, high carb, low carb, low fat, slim fast, diet pills, etc.), I realize that none of them will work if you cannot stick to it. If you go in thinking that it will only be a month, or a few months, as soon as you go back to your old habits you will be right back where you started. You have to find something that works without hating it, along with being healthy.
