So you think this might be easy but I'm not so sure.  My son is getting married in about 3 weeks so I set myself a goal to loose 5 lbs before the wedding.  It sounds easy but knowing about the wedding I have already been working out and watching what I eat and I haven't lost any weight.  The thing is - working out makes me hungrier.  It's not like I'm overly big in the first place - being five feet one-two inches tall is all.  I would like the five pounds to come off from my belly!  Sure - again it sounds real easy.  I will start by not drinking anymore pop for 3 weeks and not going to fast food restaurants and I will plan to work out 45 minutes in the morning before work and 1/2 hour in the evening 3 times a week.  That is my plan for now - unless I get more motivated and feel I can work out even more than this.  The thing is I also have to clean my house and make sure everything is presentable because on top of everything else we have people coming from out of town.

I can completely understand as I am getting married in a few weeks myself and my bridesmaids are pushing themselves hard this month to get in shape before standing up for me.

Sometimes the most helpful thing (though least exciting) is to write down what you are eating so that you have a true idea of exactly what you are putting into your mouth. With simplistic Apps available, all you have to do is search for your food or just take a picture and your calories will be tallied up for you.

Your calorie intake is truly what it all comes down to: calories in must be less than calories out in order to lose weight. To lose 1 pound per week you will need to cut 500 calories per day or burn an extra 500 calories per day or lose 250 calories from each. It will help to enjoy a diet rich in fiber-full fruits, veggies, and whole grains - though don't forget the healthy fats otherwise you may be left feeling deprived, leading you to binge away calories.

It sounds as though you have a great plan already! Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS to you and your son!

Thank you Jessica - well it's been about a week and my plans did not go perfectly but pretty close, I have not had any pop, and no fast food - except a baked potato from Wendy's, and oh yeah a 5 piece chicken nuggets from Wendy's too.
Darn it's hard to stay away from those places. I have been counting my calories this is depressing I never new how fast they add up and of course I love carbs which is a bummer when it comes to calories.

Nancy, it sounds like you are doing all the right things, it seems like it always go back to self control, and I know that you can do it. Keep up the good work!

Well the wedding is just in 3 days. The diet is going well, still no pop, I still can't believe how fast calories add up. I used to think if I just exercise I can eat what I want (like burgers and ice cream cones). Well those days are over! I'm glad I set a goal and forced myself to achieve something.

We can often underestimate ourselves when it comes down to what we are capable of accomplishing. There is little doubt in my mind that you could easily lose the 5 pounds in a week or less which would leave you more than enough time to purchase a new dress for the wedding. Take time each day to walk more than you currently do, even if you only have 15 minutes to do it. Cut back on the amount of food you are currently eating, and make sure you get plenty of rest. This should be more than enough to get rid of 5 pounds, and you will be able to avoid breaking a sweat to do it.
