The work required to manage weight is an age old issue with many suggested remedies. There have been several methods from portion control to avoiding certain food groups, and from specialized diets to calorie counting - all pretty difficult! There is one simple, effective remedy however -  the use of cayenne pepper!

The cayenne pepper (also known as capsicum minima) is a red hot chili pepper that is normally used to flavor traditionally spicy Mexican and Italian dishes, giving them that extra flavor "kick." It is one of the vegetables found in the nightshade (Solanaceae) family, along with eggplant, tomatoes, bell peppers and white potatoes.

Cayenne peppers have little aroma, but are spicy to the taste, helping other herbs to work more effectively when taken at the same time. The cayenne pepper is also able to be used for medicinal purposes, helping with stomach aches, heart attacks, arthritis, sore throats and styptic. Cayenne peppers have also been said to help in weight loss and has been called the healthiest herb available to mankind.

How to Use Cayenne Pepper for Weight Loss

Cayenne pepper's spice manipulates the fat burning hormones in a person's body. As a result, cayenne is often is found in many diets and formulas designed to lose weight. The typical dosage is one of the following supplements three times a day.

  • Tincture: (1.5): Ten drops
  • Tincture: (1.1): Two drops
  • Powdered cayenne pepper: One fourth teaspoon mixed in with a glass of cold water
  • Tablet: One 250mg tablet

There is still some debate as to whether or not the properties of cayenne pepper can actually help a person to lose weight. While the final verdict has yet to be determined by some researchers, cayenne pepper is commonly used to support diet and exercise efforts, because hot peppers can aid in digestion and absorption of nutrients and can reduce excess appetite that is due to insufficient absorption, a common condition in overweight people. Cayenne pepper also increases production of epinephrine and norepinephrine, which combined can decrease appetite.
