Does Coca Cola Care About Obesity?
The Coca-Cola company says that it is doing everything it can to help in the fight against obesity. With all of the good deeds they do, they can clearly be thought of as the solution to the current obesity epidemic sweeping our globe, not the problem.
Back in the 80's when people started to really become interested in weight control, the company introduced their low calorie option Diet Coke. But how have obesity rates changed since that time, and are people healthier?
The answer to this question is very simple. Between the period of the 1980's and 2000 obesity rates have doubled. But if people are drinking lower calorie soft drinks wouldn't you think those numbers would be so much better?
The company says that it is constantly looking at ways in which they can remove extra calories from their products in order to promote a healthier lifestyle. In Ireland they are even introducing bike schemes in order to get people more active and fight obesity.
While that is something more than most large corporations are doing to help in the fight against obesity, the truth is it's not enough at all. The real truth is that if Coca Cola wanted to help in the fight against obesity they would close their doors and never sell their product again.
Coca-Cola is pure sugar, and no matter how many calories they take out of it, it is still going to be the one of the main causes of obesity in our world. Calories very simply do not matter when you are drinking a product that has 44 grams of sugar per 21 oz serving. That's about 10 teaspoons of pure sugar in case you are counting.
Of course at the end of the day it is all about choices. Coca Cola doesn't need to close their doors or look for lower calorie options because that is not their business. Their business is to sell trillions of cans of their sugary junk liquid to as many humans as humanly possible in order to make the most profit.
It is up to you, and your neighbor and your mother and every other person that you know who is fat, sick, diseased and feeling like there is no way they will ever lose weight. The second that you demand that the beverages and foods you consume are made with only the best ingredients, and not enough sugar to literally kill you will be the second that you take control of your life.
Coca Cola and other large corporations that sell food that is killing you are just trying to make money. It is your job to realize that, and stop giving them your money. In the mean time, they are going to try to improve their public image by saying they are helping in the fight against obesity.
