Juice Therapy For Varicose Vein Treatment

By Smarty More Blogs by This Author

Having varicose veins, while rarely life-threatening, can be embarrassing and painful. Our unique ability to walk upright has unfortunately caused some unique health problems, including spinal issues and varicose veins. Most modern treatment of varicose veins involves either closing or removing the swollen vein. However, for those with varicose veins who prefer to leave their veins intact, the practice of raw juice therapy provides that option.

Veins and the Circulatory System

Your circulatory system is composed of four major parts: the lungs, heart, veins, and arteries. The latter three will be most important when discussing varicose veins. The heart pumps blood throughout the body, where arteries bring blood out to tissues and veins take blood back to the heart. Arteries are quite dynamic in comparison to veins due to their muscular make-up. Arteries can contract and relax according to the needs of blood pressure and temperature regulation. Veins, in contrast, must rely on their one-way valves and the contraction of surrounding skeletal muscles in order to keep blood flowing through them.

Your Poor Leg Veins!

The veins in your legs are more likely to wear out due to the fact that they're so often working against gravity. When you stand or sit in one position for long periods at a time, blood in your legs pushes against the valves of those veins as it struggles to return to the heart. These valves are designed to withstand most of this pressure; but after a while they can become worn out, allowing blood to flow backwards and pool in the lower legs. Veins filled with pooled blood stretch out over time, resulting in bulging, gnarly varicose veins. This can be exacerbated when excess body fat further inhibits venous blood flow or when water retention, often from poor diet, increases blood volume.

A Delicious Treatment for Varicose Veins

It seems a bit counterintuitive that consuming liquids could help varicose veins. But many raw fruit juices are packed with helpful nutrients that can strengthen veins and help break down the hard protein deposits that varicose veins tend to accumulate.

  • Dark Berries: Berries like cherries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes, and black currants contain a high concentration of flavonoids, anthocyanins, and proanthocyanidins. These natural chemicals work to strengthen the walls of blood vessels, which can be particularly beneficial to those with varicose veins.
  • Pineapple: These intimidating-looking fruits are rich in the enzyme bromelain. Pineapple juice concentrates this enzyme further, which functions by breaking up a protein substance called fibrin. Varicose veins tend to accumulate fibrin, causing them to become hard, which further impairs blood flow. Bromelain can also break up clots, which are a rare but serious complication of varicose veins.

When drinking juices for the treatment of varicose veins it is generally recommended to drink at least 8 ounces per day. It's also important to make sure that the juices you ingest are fresh and haven't been pasteurized. Pasteurization breaks down many of the important nutrients found in these juices.
