Dog has pain on back

My 4 year catahoula lab hound mix cannot tolerate petting or gentle stroking along her back. She jerks away and sometimes growls. This is totally unlike her--has changed her behavior at the dog park, making her testy with other dogs. She has always been present at therapy sessions, offering comfort to my clients who would touch or stroke her during difficult discussions.  This is no longer possible. Vet thinks it might be a disc problem, but glucosamine supplement has brought no change. No xrays yet. She doesn't show any symptoms of back pain--only the reaction to touch {like people with fibromialgia} She is a happy, healthy, active dog who goes to the dog park every day and has been a perfect dog-parker until recently. Any help you can give we will both receive with gratitude.

Dog with back problems

My mini poodle is 13.5 years old, and has a long back for a mini. He had back problems approximately 5 years ago, and 1 year ago sore knee ACL. Rimadyl worked in the past after 1 week 25mg 1/dy. Current proto 25 mg Rimadyl 1/dy, for 5 days he also had Methocarbamol 125mg every 8 hrs, Tramadol 50 mg every 8 hrs. I am keeping him as quiet and resting as my vet recommends. Rimadyl seems to help him throughout the day he gets a full 25 mg +- 11:00 AM with food. When he gets up in the morning he is sore and walks with an arched back. He sleeps curled up. Gets his pain pill in the morning and rests with his back straight not curled up. His pain pill and Rimadyl treatment will be completed in 5 more days. Any comments and or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You Joe & Digger

My dog is experiencing lower back pain

My toy poodle/ maltese mix has used Previcox at times for pain. Since there can be long term effects I'm looking for something I can give her when she has hurt herself but not as bad as once before when she was put on steroid shots for three days. I gave her 1/2 of a 57 mg previcox yesterday which helped but today she is slow moving as if it still is bothering her. Help.

How long can my dog be on Promaxol twice a day for?

My 14 year old dog has had her knee caps surgery about 6 years ago. Now she is old she started not being good on her back legs. My mom told me about Promaxol and she wrote to someone and they say she can have it twice a day. After while I took her back to once a day and she wasn't doing any good. So, I put her back on it twice a day. She is a diabetic and on insulin twice a day. How long can she take the Promaxol twice day before it starts hurting her? I don't want her to be in pain.

My Border Collie is in pain and has dry skin

Our border collie is 7 and she has started to really limp and struggle getting up when she lies down. She loves to run but then she gimps and struggles to get up for days following. She also digs at her skin and has dry patches. I want to go with something natural for my pets. Jennifer
