Has anyone tried neurofeedback for ADD/ADHD?

I read a story about a family who had their child go through neurofeedback therapy to help with her ADD/ADHD. "Neurofeedback was initially developed by NASA in the 60s to improve a pilot’s attention and ability to focus on tasks. Neurofeedback works through a combination of visual and audio stimulation that is specific for each patient." What happens is you go into the specialist and they put sensors on your head and a couple on your ears. This reads your brain activity and modifies it to help you focus on one task at a time. After 10 sessions of this, the girl in the news story seemed to be able to focus and not need her medication. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone tried it? Natural Treatment for ADHD

My son is having some trouble in school, but I REALLY don't want to put him on any drugs for ADHD. My friend said they made her feel like a zombie. I don't want to do that to him. What are some natural choices?

ADHD or just being kids?

I read this article today about how some kids are being misdiagnosed as ADHD and it really hit home for me. It was mentioned in a report that a possible assesment would be done for my child when he turns 4 years old and I was really thrown back about that. First of all, he is the youngest child in my family and let's not forget that he is 3 YEARS OLD, but it was noticed that he had some difficulty sitting still for too long and he was running around looking at all the cool toys and that automatically says to them "Possible ADHD"?? This article really gave me something to think about and something to watch for.  Kids Might Get Slapped With ADHD Label for Just Being Kids by Tom Henderson (Subscribe to Tom Henderson's posts) http://www.parentdish.com/2010/08/18/kids-might-get-slapped-with-adhd-label-for-just-being-kids/

Your Experience with ADD or ADHD treatment?

Hello ADD/ADHD community! To be honest, I feel a bit conflicted about the whole idea of ADD and ADHD, but specifically about the way it is treated. I've always been different - messier and busier than the average person. (My mother tells me I lost THIRTY pairs of mitten in kindergarten - including some with the little clips meant to keep them with your coat!) But in third grade, she decided something  But by third grade, I suppose my "differences" became more apparent and it was decided I should see a psychologist. This was 1995 and ADHD was becoming a "popular" diagnosis, so of course this was immediately suspected. Being 9, I don't remember this testing terribly well, but I do remember playing a game of concentration on the computer - which I passed with above average attention span - but then stubbornly refusing to do what I was told  by the psychologist - who took this defiance as disability and labeled me ADD despite, testing saying otherwise. They put me on Ritalin, which I hated. I felt numb on it - even at 9. I wasn't on it long either - my third grade teacher, told my mother I had lost my spark on it. Usually anxious to offer my word on a topic, I now sat there looking blank and dull. I was then taken off the meds - for a short time. The next attempt was Adderall. This gave me tremors and didn't seem to correct the problem either. SO. I'm curious. Has anyone else been treated for ADD or ADHD? How was it determined ADD or ADHD was your problem? What was YOUR experience with the treatment? Did the benefits outweigh the drawbacks?

Aperger's Disorder Vs. ADHD

I have a much younger 15 year old sister who was just recently, diagnosed with a type of Asperger’s disorder. Though she is exceptionally bright and passes most of her tests with 100%, she has almost always had a lot of trouble at school - completing assignments and staying organized. She has also unfortunately almost always had trouble with her peers teasing her, and unusual complaints about sounds that don’t’ bother most people. Before that she had been diagnosed with ADHD – which I now believe was a misdiagnosis of the symptoms she was experiencing so many years ago and also the reason it took so long to find out what her real condition was. How common is it for the two conditions to be confused and what are the differences between them? I also suffer from some of the same symptoms as my sister and was diagnosed with ADHD at a young age. Is there a genetic to component to Asperger’s? Should I be concerned for my daughter?
