Feline Diabetes

Are there any additional treatments that can be utilized in place of insulin shots - my cat is 15 yrs. old and was just diagnosed. I am unable to administer the recommended shots. I have switched her diet to Fancy Feast Classic canned food. She is no longer drinking excessive amounts of water and her urination has also decreased, not like before but much better. Is there some other types of treatments/medicines that could be utilized in place of the insulin? -Stephanie-

Diet for a Diabetic Cat?

My 8-yr-old barn cat, Ben was just diagnosed with diabetes...he was close to death when I found him last week & then got him to the vet...brought him home Mon. after a 5-day vet hospital stay and now he's on 3 units of insulin 2x/day....I just ordered the Dia-ionX...also wondering about his diet...currently I'm force feeding a canned food from the vet....Ben's diet before this was holistic dry cat food....Taste of the Wild...32% protein, 16% fat...but now that he's diabetic should I put him on a canned food? What brand would you advise? Should I prepare a raw diet for him? Thanks for any advice you have. I'm just so thankful to have found your website...this is the most hopeful I felt since he got sick!!!! -Linda-

Very Old Cat Drinking Lots of Water

Callie is 18 yr old inside cat. She is fragile, thin, matted hair. Eats good but does drink a lot of water. I can't afford a bunch of test as I'm old & fragile, too. Can I give her the Dia-lonx without vet test first? -Kathey-

Diabetic Dog (Chihuahua)

My 10 y.o. Chihuahua has had diabetes 4 the past 1 1/2 - 2yrs. She's on insulin, had numerous miner problems, like some skin problems. Everything has been monitored & controlled. We've done numerous curves, fructosime, random glucose test. All this & more has been closely documented days, times, numbers from numerous tests, so random glucose test can be exactly compared 2 said tests. Lately she's been losing weight about 1/2lb every 2-3 weeks, her doctor has increased her food gradually, she still has a good glucose level. She is in season & doesn't seem 2 feel well. She seems that maybe her glucose level maybe low? After her feeding & insulin, within a 2 1/2 hr. after feeding. Also on occasion she is licking at her urine? I am going 2 take her 2 vet 1st thing in a.m. I'm curious 2 know what your thoughts are? I'm not sure if I've given u enough info, knowing that so much depends on gathered info? Basically I'm most curious as 2 why she seems 2 having low glucose signs after regular food & insulin? Does her being in season have any bearing on glucose levels? -Becky-

What do I feed a diabetic cat?

I just adopted a 4 year old Persian cat from the animal shelter. I took him to the vet and had blood-work and urinalysis done and found out he is borderline diabetic. I give him prescription food (which he does not like but will eat a little). However, the canned food he will not eat. What ingredients should I look out for that is NOT suitable for cats with diabetes? -Gail-

Dog with Diabetes Mellitus

My 11 yr old dog was just diagnosed with diabetes mellitus the vet said the treatment was very expensive and the prognosis was very poor. He is still eating and drinking--excessive amounts of water, and excessive urinating. I don't understand how Dia-Ionx works--reading your site--it looks like he still needs insulin immediately in conjunction with your product. Can you tell me where to start? Thanks. -Cheryl-

Cat is diabetic and no insulin available

My 14 yr old Diabetic male tabby cat is becoming listless, not eating, not responding to voices or loud noises after our weekend away from home. We left out extra food and water and tv on low for stimulus and voices so he and our other 9 yr old female calico tabby would not be bored. We have done this every couple of weeks and no ill effects until this last time. I only left out Indoor formula though, and not wet cat food (higher protein, low carb). His insulin has been on back order more than 2 months, and he had been doing quite well on high protein, low carb diet. This week, his bones are showing on his back, he isn't eating, no large voidings, but has had a couple 'wetting' accidents which is unusual... its like he is too weak to walk... sugar high or sugar low? Should I try to get him to eat more? I did get him to eat 5-6 tartar snacks, and 2 tsp of wet catfood yesterday. He did make it to the water bowl and drank. Please help! Could he have gotten any poisoning from the grass at our apartment complex?  We did give him a handful, as he was trying to cough up a hairball without success... he normally passes them rectally. -JoAnn-

I think my cat has diabetes - will Dia-IonX help?

I feel terrible saying this, but I have been out of work for several years and my unemployment is coming to an end. I am barely making it - I know my 13 year old cat has diabetes - he has lost weight, drinking a lot of water and has graduated to using pee-pee pads for his frequent urination and his coat has changed. I cannot afford to take him to the vet due to the cost...can your product cure his health without me having the expense of going to the vet? Thank you.

Family Member that Doesn't Manage Their Diabetes

My uncle has type II diabetes, but he is not managing it. He doesn't go to the doctor, he eats as much sugar as he wants, and he doesn't exercise. At first, he was doing okay, but my family saw a decline in his health at each family function he attended. He can barely walk; he uses a can for assistance. When he stands up he gets instantly dizzy and almost falls to the ground. And he recently lost one of his index fingers to gangrene. He had to have it surgically removed. I feel like we've tried everything to get him motivated to improve his health. We limit the sugar and sweets at family functions, so the choices are almost gone. But he still will pick the one soda pop that isn't diet and pile on sweets and salty foods. We don't want to bug him with :You should take care of yourself" statements because sometimes that just makes a person shut down. No one likes to hear someone scold them about their health. Is their a point where we should just stop trying? Has anyone had an experience with someone who wouldn't manage their diabetes? What do you suggest our family try to do to help? Or should we step back and let him be?
