My Shih Tzu is losing hair from her back. It is flaky around the edges. She takes a monthly flea tablet. she has been spayed and is 1 years old. She still eats and drinks well. I am thinking allergies or psorisis. What does it sound like to you?

Dear Anna,

Has your veterinarian done any blood work to check for thyroid function? Allergies are also very common. DERMA-IONX is helpful for many skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. What sets it apart from most homeopathics is that it is in an oligotherapeutic mineral base which has had a charge added to it.

Initially I would give a half dose of DERMA-IONX on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. I would also give Probiotics to aid the immune system. Health begins with the gut. OMEGA 3,6,9 is also helpful in soothing irritated skin.

What do you feed your dog? I would suggest a grain free diet that uses fish or turkey as the protein source if your dogs are not allergic to it. According to Chinese food therapy when the body is very warm one would feed a cooling diet. Beef is neutral; lamb, venison, and chicken are warming.

Please keep us updated so we can help guide you along the way.

Best regards,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
