What is the optimal color for the glucose testing strips? Do you want more - a positive reading or less the negative reading? My cat has just started to show signs of diabetes. My vet suggested insulin shots if my cat doesn't improve. He has been taking VETALOG a steriod for about 6 months. we are decreasing the dosage in hopes he will start producing insulin naturally.

Dear Lynda,

Are you asking about the urine glucose test strips? If the pet is not on insulin the goal is to have it negative meaning no sugar is spilling into the urine. If the pet is on insulin the goal is to have the urine sugar at a trace because it would be dangerous to give insulin to someone that does not have very much glucose in his blood.

Please let me know if you need further explanation.

Best regards,
