Can you recommend a wet food to transition my british shorthair 10 year old off Prescription Diet WD? I am wanting a more natural food without all the junk in this. Thanks! Robin

Dear Robin,

Diabetic cats should not be fed any dry food at all. Low carbohydrate canned foods that are nonprescription include Friskies Classic Pate Salmon, Fancy Feast - Savory Salmon Feast, Turkey and Giblets Feast, and White Meat Chicken Florentine. These are 2% or lower in carbohydrates. You can check labels of other holistic type canned foods but it is not always to find the carbohydrate content on the label. The goal is find something that is low in carbohydrates. The other information was provided at a conventional veterinary seminar and so they did not mention other foods.

Best regards,

My cat is 10 yrs old and 18 # ... but bigger than overweight. Took him in for urinary problem and he was diagnosed w/ diabetes 4-6 months ago. They put him on 2 units of insulin.

He was on insulin for a about 3 months. Besides the cost and my schedule being irregular it was becoming more and more difficult to give it because he would hide and I won't eat his wet food so I could give him his shot.

I have over this time completely changed his (and his sisters 7#) diet from only Costco's Dry Kibble which they have been on all their lives with nothing else. Now they are on Natures Variety wet and dry

He still is drinking a LOT of water and peeing a LOT. I want to get him on something natural and good for him. Am I too late? God willing I have not done irreparable harm. Is there hope I can still heal him. I am going to order your homeopathic but is there anything else I can or need to do? Much appreciation! Tanya
