Vetsulin is being discontinued and I would like to know you recommendation for a brand of insulin. The only one I have found is Humulin R. Also, I would like to know if it is necessary to have another glucose curve done to establish the dosage when the insulin is changed.

Dear Kathy,

A lot of dogs are being switched over to Humulin R. You should follow your veterinarian's recommendations because he or she will have a feel for its action and can help you to use it well. I think doing another blood glucose curve is a good idea. How the body responds to each type of insulin is an individual response. If you haven't tried our Dia-IonX, this would be a good time to add it in before starting a new baseline. The oligotherapeutic base helps to stimulate the enzyme systems in the body to help with healing. In addition, I will review the other factors that are quite helpful in providing better diabetic regulation. Feed only approved foods and treats that are low in carbohydrates and higher in fiber. Give digestive enzymes with each meal, and a probiotic, MSM, and a fish oil supplement daily. Provide sufficient water that is free of chlorine and fluoride. Have a regular moderate exercise schedule because it helps to move blood glucose from the blood into the muscles. Giving Dia-IonX helps the body better utilize the other supplements and it is easy to give by just adding to the food. Together you have a synergistic effect.

Please let us know how the switch over goes for you.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
