Health Questions & Answers

My question is, can you use both of the products above at the same time? My dog is old and overweight and he struggles getting up after being asleep due to arthritis. He has been on Rimadyl for years and I really don't think it is helping and I know it has side effects to a dog’s liver. Anyway, I know my dog must be in pain so can I use both of these products at the same time? Can I pour both into his water???

Please advise.

Dear Julie,

I would start with Promaxol and once the situation is stabilized I would switch over to Arthro-IonX. If you had both products on hand and you were usually giving Arthro-IonX, but he seemed stiff or uncomfortable you could give an additional dose of Promaxol. Generally you can double a regular dose with no problems. Giving too much would soften the stool. By adding it to the water, it is hard to tell how much the pet has actually consumed so you will need to estimate and then you could also give a dose in a little food.

Please let us know how this works for you.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
