Dear Richard,

Rimadyl is a prescription NSAID (NonSteroidal Anti-Inflammatory). One should have blood work done to monitory liver enzymes to make sure the body can detoxify the drug. There are certain breeds that cannot handle it well. One breed I would not give it to is the Labrador retriever. There have been some dogs that died after only one or a few doses. But many other dogs have had relief from musculo-sketetal pain by using it. I prefer to start with a homeopathic to avoid those potential problems. You may use Arthro-IonX along with other medications or supplements since it is homeopathic and will not negatively interact with other physical substances. Arthro-IonX helps to decrease pain and inflammation and stimulate healing. In addition it is helpful to follow a holistic approach by giving vitamin, C, MSM, Canine probiotics, and Omega 3,6,9. If more support is needed later than an NSAID can be added in later usually at a lower dose. There are other types of those, too, which can be selected based upon the patient.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
