Health Questions & Answers

3-4 times a year my dog, a Lab, 5 years old suffers from ears infection, and paw licking and elbows is there one soultion to cure this problem. He has it now and I can't afford to take him to the vet. I have before and they told me it was allergies and he had a yeast infection in his ears, I would like a home remedy to help him - it's getting worse.

Dear Tricia,

DERMA-IONX has help improve many different types of skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product that stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include MSM, vitamin C, PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9. Together with DERMA-IONX it produces a synergistic effect. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. As for diet, if your dog is not allergic to these protein sources you might try a fish or turkey based grain free food if your dog is quite warm and seeks cool places. These foods are considered to be cooling according to Chinese food therapy. You would want to avoid chicken or lamb which are warming for the skin if it is already too warm. Beef is neutral. Avoid treats that have artificial colorings.

To treat chronic ear infections I usually use Zymox Otic ear drops if the eardrum is intact. You might be able to find it online or from your veterinarian.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or to let us know how you are doing.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
