Dear Edith,

You might want to look at some of our products to help reduce skin symptoms and itching. DERMA-IONX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include probiotics, MSM, vitamin C, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with DERMA-IONX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. What do you feed your dog and give for treats? When the skin is flaking, it means the skin is quite warm and so it would be better to feed cooling foods according to Chinese food therapy. Fish and turkey are considered to be cooling. Chicken and lamb are warming and would best be avoided in the summer months. Of course if your dog has a food sensitivity do not give that food.

As for your shampoo make sure that it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate which is drying to the skin. DEFENDEX shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. However since it is very concentrated you would only need to use a tiny amount. Using these products can help to resolve a difficult condition.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
