Skin Issues thought it was external yeast infection, has come back time and time again, on a complete raw hamburger diet, no wheat, corn, rice, or starches. I have been trying to treat my 9 year old Parson Russell terrier for a yeast infection that has come out thru his skin. Since September 2014, he has been on a total raw hamburger diet with Dinovite, nutritional supplement mixed in started to see improvement, but in the last month he has gotten worse, lose of hair on belly, legs and gentile area, bumps and scabs and terrible stitching. Gets bath every 2 weeks with an all natural soap with green tea. It's worse then ever.

Dear Jill,

DERMA-IONX is helpful for a variety of skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. The OMEGA 3.6.9 is especially helpful for soothing the skin. These supplements together with DERMA-IONX can produce a synergistic response. I would give a half dose on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride.

For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet and feed cooling foods according to Chinese food therapy. If your dog is warm and seeks cool places to relax in he might do better with the cooling diet. Fish and turkey are considered to be cooling so would be better choices than chicken or lamb which are warming. Of course if your dog has a food sensitivity to a particular food do not give that food. (Beef is neutral.) Your diet is probably fine but he could be getting sensitive to that too. I would not give raw fish; cooked fish is safer.

If you need to bathe, DEFENDEX shampoo is soothing. I like to use it because it is nontoxic. If you still need to do something more than the above just let us know. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or to let us know how you are doing so we can help guide you along the way. You will need to rebuild the immune system. Doing the above will help you in that goal.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
