Health Questions & Answers

Our Dachshund keeps breaking out with a skin infection. Our vet says that it is Fungual and has prescribed a pill, amount determined by weight. Our dog also is to be given baths 2 - 3 times a week with a medicated shampoo. During the summer our dog was taking a medicine for allegeries, a medicine for skin infection, and using medicated shampoo. The symptoms will go away then come in different areas of his body. We have tried almost everything except for allergy testing. Can you help us?

Dear Kim,

DERMA-IONX is helpful for many skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. What sets it apart from most homeopathics is that it is in an oligotherapeutic mineral base which has had a charge added to it.

Initially I would give a half dose of DERMA-IONX on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. I would also give Probiotics to aid the immune system. OMEGA 3,6,9 is also helpful in soothing skin and improves coat quality.

Diet can also influence the skin. What do you feed your dog? What kind of water do you give?

If you need to bathe your it would be beneficial to put a filter on the water supply if your water contains chlorine. You might want to try DEFENDEX shampoo because it contains essential oils which are very effective and soothing.

Please keep us updated so we can help guide you along the way.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
