My 3 year old male cat has skin allergies. I took him to the vet and he was given a steroid shot and some expensive liquid medicine that makes him sick. The bottom line is that none of this is working. We only have one salary coming in right now and money is tight. But I feel so bad for our cat and I want him to get some relief from his dry, itchy, scaly, skin. What can we do to make life enjoyable for him?

Dear Judy,

DERMA-IONX has been helpful in feline dermatitis. I also suggest that your cat be checked for parasites, so you might want to do this if it hasn't been done recently. I also give probiotics, and Omega 3,6,9. As for dosing the DERMA-IONX, I prefer to add 10 drops onto some canned food twice daily at breakfast and supper. If you need to you can give another 10 drops orally at bedtime. What kind of food and treats do you give your cat? Feeding grain free is wise at this time. Target now carries Purina's Beyond grain free Whitefish flavor that I have seen good results with. Also offer purified water if your water contains chlorine.

Please keep us updated.
