The amount of Dia-IonX you are using is a good dose. The 1000mg/dl or 60mmol/L spot, which is brown on the stick, indicates a lot of sugar is present in the urine. I would like to see a smaller amount at 100, the one just past negative. That is your goal. Your veterinarian might need to increase the insulin dose because the blood glucose levels are high if there is that much sugar spilling into the urine.

I will review other things that might help you get better control. I like to give digestive enzymes that include pancreatic enzymes, probiotics, MSM, and fish oil. Dia-IonX will help with better utilization of the diet and supplements. Also avoid giving water that contains chlorine or fluoride. You might need to get a filter. The diet and treats should be one that is suitable for a diabetic. It should be low in carbohydrates. What are you feeding?

A regular exercise schedule is important in aiding the blood sugar to enter the muscles and thereby lower the amount in the blood. Also check for any infection in the body such as a bladder infection; this can also cause blood sugar to rise. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Dr. Wilson, I had a couple questions about my dog buster who is currently on the Humulin Insulin twice a day 13 units. Buster weighs 69 pounds and is a mixed breed. I have the urine test strips and I wanted to know when I should test him urine, before his shorts or after. When I read the test strips at 30 seconds I get one result but as the dries further I get different results. I ordered Dia-IonX and I was wondering if you had any suggestion to begin treatment. Thank you for all your help. -Carren Verderber
