My dog was just diagnosed with diabetes. He is prescribed 6 units of Vetsulin 2 times a day. The vet said to bring him back in a month to see his level on a curve. My question is that I have 5 other animals and they all use the same water bowls. Is it safe for the others to drink? How will I know my diabetic dog gets enough if every animals drinks from same bowl?

Concerned mom,

Thanks

Dear Tina,

It might be easier to add the Dia-IonX to your diabetic dog's food to ensure that he is getting enough. It would not be harmful for the other dogs or cats to consume it but you would never know how much each one got if it was added to the water. Please monitor your diabetic dog for signs of low blood sugar just in case your dog starts making insulin that works better. If that were to happen you would need to lower the amount of insulin you are giving. Be sure to have some honey or Karo syrup on hand if your dog becomes weak or shaky.

Please let us know how you progress.

Best wishes,
