I have a competitive 8-1/2 year old black lab that has taken a dive in energy over the last year that is noticeable. He lays around a lot after our morning workout. Drinks a lot of water, it seems. He appears stiff in joints when he retrieves and comes back slowly. Wondering about change in dog food? On Purina Sport now. Skitish about their Beneful brand due to recalls. Any constructive reply? Thank you.

Dear Jim,

I think you should have some blood work done and a urine sample checked. There might be something else going on. To address the stiffness I would start with PROMAXOL. After improvement you can switch to ARTHRO-IONX. I usually start by splitting the dose and giving a half dose twice daily on the breakfast and supper food. In addition I like to give PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9 for a synergistic effect. I would change the food again to a grain free dog food so that you can avoid corn.

Please let us know when you have more information and we can offer you some natural options to address the condition.

Best regards,
