Health Questions & Answers

Dear Dr. Char,
I was excited to find out about these two products as I have an older arthritic cat and did not want to use conventional treatment methods. I am concerned about the use of Salicylicum Acidum in Arthro-IonX and Promaxol. Is this not the homeopathic version of aspirin? I know aspirin is not to be used as a treatment option for cats. Wouldn't it pose the same dangers in homeopathic form? Perhaps there is something I am missing or don’t understand. I would greatly appreciate any information you might be able to offer on this subject.

Dear Sheri,

Salicylicum acidum in homeopathic form is safe for cats because it carries the information and not the large molecular amount that needs to be detoxified. I would not give actual aspirin to a cat even though the safe dose is one baby aspirin every three days. I think it is better to have owners avoid it altogether than risk someone accidentally giving an overdose. Cats lack the ability to effectively degrade it so it takes longer for the detoxification process to occur. In homeopathic form you get the anti-inflammatory effect without the side-effects. We have not had any negative responses from owners using Arthro-IonX in their cats. If you are still concerned just begin with a quarter dose once daily..

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
