A small yorkie was given to me because they could not care for it. They told me that the yorkie has all its shots but they never provided proof to me that the yorkie has its shots. She has itchy skin and is always scratching. I don't take her outside because I am not cconvinced that she has all her shots. I will be taking her to ASPCA mobile truck that will be in the neighborhood this weekend. My question is, will they be able to tell if she has had all her shots? Or can they just give her her shots even if I don't have proof of her shots? -Doris-

Dear Doris,

The mobile truck will not be able to determine what has been given. I would not do all the shots. I would ask the original family if they can tell you where they took her to get her shots and contact the veterinarian to ask if you can get the information. The only one that is required is Rabies and it is usually given every 3 years. The Distemper booster is given every one to three years and she probably has had it. I would only do the Rabies if necessary and not all of them at one time. If you don't have proof of Rabies vaccination you will need to get it done in order to buy a dog license. Doing all of the vaccinations at once will probably be very hard on the immune system and can aggravate the skin.
