My brother was taking care of my dog while I was deployed. I prefer to treat him holistically for his Canine Atopic Dermatitis, but in my absence my brother was told to treat him with Apoquel. He didn't tell me that his has been treating him with this for the past few months. My dog Buddy has since suffered a stroke with a permanent head tilt and is showing signs of severe lymphadenopathy. (I am a nurse and master herbalist, but for humans)I am talking him to the Vet tomorrow but is there anything I can give him to get that poison out of his system until his Vetionx arrives? Please help. I am so worried. Thank You.

Dear Shelton,

When did the stroke happen? I use gemmotherapy for that depending upon when it happened . I would get some MSM to help detoxification. I would also give PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9. The gut flora has been altered from the Apoquel. The omegas can help reduce inflammation. I assume you ordered DERMA-IONX for the atopy. After your vet visit, let me know what else you find out. Please let me know what is causing the enlarged lymph nodes. We also need to discuss diet. What breed is your dog?

Response-Customer: I did order the DERMA-IONX as well as the OMEGA 3,6,9 from your website. His is doing so much better now. When my brother took Buddy to the vet she said that the Apoquel didn't cause his lymphadenopathy, even though it clearly states on the package inset that is one of the side effects of extended treatments. She went on to say that in her opinion Buddy has lymphoma and aspirated one of the enlarged lymph nodes in his neck and sent it out for testing. I am hopeful that the test results are negative for lymphoma and that his just has inflamed nodes from the Apoquel. I am looking into more treatment options for him and have found a DVM in a nearby city who specializes in natural health.

Reply-Dr. Char: I would choose a grain free diet that uses fish or turkey as the protein. According to Chinese food therapy these are more cooling than chicken, lamb, and venison which are more warming. When there are allergies there is too much heat and so you need to cool the body. I would also use vitamin C and quercetin.
