Health Questions & Answers

My dog is a 12 year old staffy late last year started limping on his left hind leg. We rest him & limited his play etc and it went away. But then he started limping on his front right leg so we took him to the vet. They took xrays & found a mass in his hip bone on his hind leg. They couldn't identify it positively so the xrays were sent to a specialist. Their findings weren't conclusive either but they did say it was more then likely the secondary sight of aggresive bone cancer. we were devestated to say the least. He was prescibed previcox 227. We give him one tablet every 2 days & longer if we can. Lately we have had to give him 1 a day as his pain has increased. Previcox makes him a new dog. Not only can we not continue spending hundreds of dollars each vet visit, But we are very worried about the side effects from the prolonged use, as we have heard some horror stories about previcox. Are there any other drugs that we could try? We would do anything for our dog but it is hard to see him in so much pain. Thanks for your time. Melisa

Dear Melisa,

I am working with a dog with bone cancer who is doing quite well considering. He is getting PROMAXOL and Montana Yewtip products. For more information on the yew tip .....see I also have the dog on many supplements. For starters I would use probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. For additional pain relief Tramadol can be given. But I would give the other things a chance to work first. Please let me know what responses you get.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
