I have got my mini schnauzer on Derma-IonX as he has itchy skin and hot spots, this seems to be coming under control. On his back, from his neck to half way down his back, about 4/5 days after a bath the hair starts to get very oily and then starts to take on a very unpleasant smell and he seems to get itchy from it. He has had this happen for years, the vets don't seem to have any solution. They have done skin scrapings but have found no cause for this problem. Have you heard of this before, or can you offer some help. Many thanks Michele and Sherman (the mini schnauzer)

Dear Michele,

Perhaps the shampoo, the water, or the stimulation is triggering the response. You might want to try a bath with a water filter on the water source to remove any chlorine or fluoride. If that doesn't help then I would suggest you try our DEFENDEX shampoo because it contains essential oils and is soothing. You would not need to let it set on the skin, just wash and rinse. If it still persists then I would consult a veterinary chiropractor to make sure there is not a minor subluxation that is causing irritation? Does Sherman like his baths or does he get upset? What food and other dietary supplements does he get?

Best regards,
