Health Questions & Answers

My 9 year old Schnauzer has suffered with a skin condition since June 2013. It started out like a ringworm on her back and progressively has gotten worse. She scratches incessantly with no relief. I have tried Hex Shampoo, Oatmeal shampoo and Hydrogen Peroxide including antifungal cream and hydrocortisone without relief. Our vet started her on Amoxicillen 250 mg. in Sept. with no relief and two days later on this medication she broke out around eyes with purulent discharge. A second opinion from another vet was also not successful. He put her on Keflex 250 mg for 14 days. She seemed to be doing better but still itchy. Her eyes cleared up but since she finished the 14 day cycle of Keflex she is starting to have the purulent discharge in her eyes and itching. Benadryl 25 mg 1/2 a tab gives her temporary relief. What else should I try. I don't want to put her through a biopsy as recommended by both vets unless absolutely necessary.

ear Jessie,

You might want to look at some of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces itching and inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include Canine probiotics, vitamin C, MSM, and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. Using these products is a simple and effective way of helping resolve a difficult condition. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
