Health Questions & Answers

My 14 yr old cat, who for some time was pooping outside the box, was diagnosed (palpation of lower lumbar area and then radiograph)with this condition. The vet classified it as minor (stage 1) and believed it was causing the accidents as it would hurt to poop (crouching, pushing involved). We started a course of Metacam (0.7 ml per day-she's 14.3 lbs) and saw an improvement in her attitude and return to using the litter box. I don't want to keep her on Metacam long term, but I don't want her to return to her having accidents either. I need long term pain/arthritis control. I looked at Promaxol and Arthro-IonX. Can you recommened either for my situation? And how long would the treatment take for effects to be apparent?

I would try Promaxol to reduce the pain and help healing to begin. Promaxol would be a good choice for your cat. It contains the stronger LM potencies. After improvement is seen then you can switch over to Arthro-IonX. In addition it is helpful to give digestive enzymes with meals, probiotics, and fish oil. The oligotherapeutic mineral base found in the IonX products helps the body to better utilize the other nutritional substances given for a synergistic response and faster healing. Also be sure to give sufficient fresh water that is free of chlorine and fluoride. The other thing that is sometimes beneficial is to have a certified veterinary chiropractor check for spinal alignment and make any corrections as needed. Please let us know how you progress or if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,
