I have a 12yr. old lhasa apso. Her skin on back feels very scabby and dry. She does not seem to be irritated by it. The best way to explain it feels lumpy and scabby under her fur. Has gotten worse in the past wk. What could this be and how would I treat it for her

The little scabs could be caused by a bacterial infection. There might also be another underlying cause such as a hormonal problem such as low thyroid. A poorly functioning thyroid can result in infections and skin problems. I would suggest you visit your veterinarian for a diagnosis. With that information it would be easier to give you more holistic options to try for your dog. Sometimes owners will just want to try Derma-IonX and Defendex shampoo to see if they will get an improvement. It is often helpful but there could be more going on in your dog that you might want to be aware of which is why I suggested an exam. Please let us know what happens and feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
