Health Questions & Answers

My dog as a yeast infection on her skin. i have had her on a grain and potato free food for 2 years and it has helped the yeast infection, but her itchy skin is constant. She has had a allergy test. she is allergic to dairy, grass, pet and human dander, petroleum base products, carpet detergent & fragrance used in them or carpet powders. I have used Malaseb in the past, it dries her skin out. (I bathe her every two weeks) I am now using Zymox. It really doesn't do any good. It just makes her smell good. I give her bennadryl but there isn't any change. It only helps her sleep. Can you recommend anything that is guaranteed to give her relief? She is beginning to get aggressive when she is really not feeling well. I have people tell me to put her to sleep, but I refuse. Please help. Denise

Dear Denise,

DERMA-IONX is helpful for many skin conditions. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. What sets it apart from most homeopathics is that it is in an oligotherapeutic mineral base which has had a charge added to it.

Initially I would give a half dose of DERMA-IONX on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. I would also give Probiotics to aid the immune system. OMEGA 3,6,9 is also helpful in soothing irritated skin and improves coat quality.

Diet can also influence the skin. Sometimes the flavor even makes a difference. I would choose a grain free fish or turkey food since these are considered to be cooling for inflamed skin according to Chinese food therapy. Beef is neutral. Chicken, lamb, and venison are warming.

Since the Zymox is not giving you relief you might consider using DEFENDEX shampoo. The essential oils in it can be helpful.

Please keep us updated so we can help guide you.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
