Dear Sylvia,

Tramadol should be given cautiously in geriatric dogs. Your veterinarian will need to monitor liver and kidney function for anyone taking the drug. The drug literature does not list diabetes to be a contraindication....., but it can cause cataracts and deafness. These are issues that many diabetic patients face anyway. I would consider giving Promaxol so that you might be able to use less Tramadol. Are you using Dia-IonX? It can help with the symptoms of diabetes. Homeopathics and supplements can help greatly with the comfort of the patient, and without side effects.

Please let us know if you need more information.

Best regards,
