Did your veterinarian obtain a blood sample that was normal for glucose amounts? Or what did you test? Was it a urine sample?

it was a urine test,, that said normal glucose ,trace for everything else,,

Response: No sugar in the urine does not mean there is not diabetes. It would be wise to have a fasting blood glucose done. If it is not above the normal range (65-135 mg/dl) then Mister does not have diabetes mellitus. When the amount of glucose is very high it exceeds the renal threshhold 160-180 mg/dl and the kidneys cannot recover all the sugar and the excess is lost in the urine. If the blood sugar is 150, the pet is diabetic but there isn't enough to spill into the urine. The urine urine test will be negative. Testing the urine is valuable when one is giving insulin. If the blood glucose is low you would not want to give an insulin injection until you know what the blood glucose level is. Giving too much insulin would drop the blood glucose too low. That can be dangerous. Please let us know what the blood sugar is when you get it tested.
