Dear Donna,
It is hard to predict what will happen with your cat because I know nothing of his history but if it were my cat I would want to give some Dia-IonX on a regular basis because it acts as a catalyst keeping the enzyme systems working. Dia-IonX also helps with cellular hydration, cleansing and restoring cellular function. It is easy to give because it is liquid, adding to either food or water. It is also easily absorbed by the body.
Many diabetic cats do well if fed canned food; I would try something such as Purina DM canned because you want to get the diabetes under control quickly before you end up with damage to the eyes or kidneys. Once under control then you have time to explore more options. Purina has a special litter additive to detect sugar in the urine. You could use it to help determine how effective your therapies are. You may find that very little Dia-IonX is necessary to keep the body in balance. The quantity may change with time as improvement occurs.
Best wishes,
Dr. Char
