Dear Jerry,

The color changes give ranges of the amount of sugar in the urine. We carry these strips so that owners can be alerted if there is little sugar showing up in the urine; that would mean the owner needs to contact their veterinarian so that the veterinarian can determine if the insulin dosage should be lowered. Too little sugar in the blood can be life threatening. The best measurement is the blood glucose but many people cannot do this before each insulin administration. Checking the urine before giving an insulin injection lets you know if there are changes happening that need to be addressed.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
