Health Questions & Answers

My cat is between 62 and 65 days pregnant and been sleeping a lot, nosing around the house and going in and out of the box I prepared for the kittens. She is still eating a little, but not much. Milk came in about 4 days ago. Babies are very active, I can see them moving around. My cat's genital area is very sensitive, as she hollers when I try to look at it. Can you tell me what else I need to be looking for, and how close she is to giving birth based on the symptoms I have given you?

Gestation in cats usually is between 63 and 65 days although it has been reported a larger range of 58- 70 days. I hope that you have had the kittens and that all are doing well. Generally a decrease in body temperature of 99- 100F occurs 12 - 24 hours before delivery. Often with early contractions the queen goes to the litter box more often without voiding.

Best wishes,
