I am considering a German Sheppard from a rescue. However, I became concerned when the clerk began discussing degenerative hip displacement. Please enlighten me with information on the topic. Thank you, Christina

Dear Christina,
Many large breed dogs are genetically predisposed to hip dysplasia which means the hips are not well formed and the head of the femur rubs on the inside of the joint.  This can lead to arthritis. To aid healing and maintenance of the connective tissue homeopathics such as Arthro-IonX, MSM, and fish oil can be given. Some dogs also respond favorably to chiropractic adjustment. Hope you will find it in your heart to adopt a dog in need of a home.
Best wishes,
Dr. Char
