I adopted a 2 year old filly. She was born with a hernia. It doesn't seem to bother her, however it is pronounced. I plan on seeing a vet about it but really need to know the pros and cons of the operation thank you, Marsha and Honey Bee

Dear Marsha,

If the hernia is large enough to allow the intestines to get trapped in the outpouching it would be wise to have the surgery done. Your veterinarian should be able to advise you how important surgery would be. I hope everything turns out well. If you decide to have the hernia repaired you might want to have some Promaxol on hand to use for pain relief after surgery and to hasten healing.

Best regards, Dr. Char
