Hello I have a 1 year old blue great dane that has food allergies...he is allergic to the size of proteins in food. He is on Purina HA Hydrolyzed Vegetarian dog food but still has some reaction to it. But it's the only food he does this well on. We do give him 10 mg of Prednisone every day to keep the rest of his symptoms down. My question is would your skin medicine Derma-IonX help with his itchies and dry scaly dandruff skin? Because we can't change anything else...we can't change his food and his allergies are food related. So I don't see how this product would help...could this product take the place of his Prednisone? I look forward to your opinions on this issue, hope to hear back soon :)

Dear Chris,

DERMA-IONX is helpful for skin conditions associated with allergies. It is an oral homeopathic product which stimulates the enzyme systems in the body that aids the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. I would give a half dose of DERMA-IONX on the breakfast and supper food. After there are signs of improvement you can give a whole dose once a day. However it is important to give it at a different time away from the prednisone. The pred can lessen the response of the homeopathic. Hopefully you will be able to slowly decrease the amount of the pred with time. I would also give Probiotics. In order to improve allergies one usually needs to restore the gut flora.

I would also suggest that you give your dog only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. If you need to bathe, DEFENDEX shampoo is soothing. I like to use it because it is nontoxic.

Please keep us updated so we can help guide you along the way.

Best wishes,
