Health Questions & Answers

In January my dog was diagnosed with a severe liver infection. He has all the symptoms of diabetes except increased hunger. He is the total opposite; we cannot get him to eat. After mega antibiotics and a wallet full of money for blood tests his liver is rejuvenating itself but he still is not interested in food. Is my vet missing something? He has lost over 20 pounds and I am now feeding him baby food with a syringe to keep some nutrients in his body. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Sherry,

Dia-IonX contains homeopathic Lycopodium which is a very good liver remedy. Dia-IonX helps to cleanse the cells and stimulates healing, and it would be safe to give even if your dog doesn't have diabetes. It may help normalize his appetite with time or you could also give a B-vitamin choline product called Geri-Form which improves both the liver and appetite. Another thing I use to entice dogs to eat is a probiotic made by Purina called Forti-Flora, sprinkled on their food. It is also helpful to give digestive enzymes with meals and a fish oil supplement daily. Dia-IonX helps the body utilize all the other supplements better. Our goal is to get your dog back to his former self as soon as possible.

Please let us know how you progress or if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
