Health Questions & Answers

My dog is 12 to 13 years old. He is an Akita/Husky mix and he is experiencing pain in his hind legs. It has become harder to walk and have strength in his hind legs. I really do not want to put him in any more stress with blood tests, xrays. I just want to find something that will help him alleviate his pain and enjoy the rest of his remaining life. Please give your honest take if I should proceed with medical treatment. I'm going to try Arthro-IonX and or Promaxol. My second question is that if its necessary to give him Promaxol whe using Arthro-IonX. Please advise. Thank you so much for your help.

Dear Jasmin,

I would start with PROMAXOL. It helps to decrease pain, inflammation, and stiffness and stimulate healing. Initially I would give a half dose with breakfast and again at supper. After improvement is seen you can decrease to a whole dose once daily. For longer term management you can switch to ARTHRO-IONX. In addition I find it helpful to follow a holistic approach by giving nutritional supplements to accompany the homeopathic. I would also use PROBIOTICS and OMEGA 3,6,9 to reduce inflammation and strengthen the body. If the rear end weakness is due to a nerve problem I use Geriform, a choline supplement.

What type of food and water are you giving? This can influence arthritis symptoms.

I would also suggest an evaluation by a veterinary chiropractor. If a correction is needed, that can help with better movement. Acupuncture is also helpful. I would try these things first before trying medical treatment. Looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
