I have a 14 year old, neuterd, male cat. Weighed 19 lbs. last year. He has been on the Dia-IonX for diabetes for over 2-3 years and has been in remission for over 2 years. YEA! A year ago, he showed early signs of kidney issues and was put on Hill's Science Diet..K-D. He is doing well on this. Kidney/Liver/Sugar levels are normal. However, he has lost a lot of weight quickly this year and is now 14lbs. Our vet checked his thyroid levels, and sure enough, my cat shows definite signs of an over-active thyroid. Because of his other challenges, our vet thinks the best route is to use radiation treatment. The cost is just too great. He did offer two other options, one diet...but due to sensitive kidney/diabetic issues, the vet is concerned that this would upset the balance that exists. THe other is medication. Which brought other concerns. Can you recommend anything? Again, he is already on Dia-IonX, and Hill's Science diet K-D.

Dear Heidi,

Besides DIA-IONX I would also give homeopathic Thuja 30C (from the health food store). You could give one pellet at bedtime for about 3 weeks. I would also use probiotics and Omega 3,6,9 to support the body. Another consideration is to consult a veterinary acupuncturist.

Best regards,
