My cat started insulin 3 years ago..started on 3 units..now on .5 units but in last 3 months her eating habits have changed. I took her to the vet thinking it was due to not eating, but her teeth and gums might be bad. My vet said she had a little inflammation and gave her an antibiotic..no change..hiding under bed at times now..does she need to come off insulin?

Dear K Stringer.

One can check the blood to determine how low the blood glucose is. You could also check the urine glucose. If there is no sugar in the urine then an insulin injection might not be needed. When a cat is not eating a meal then the injection should not be given. You need to talk to your veterinarian about this.

Please let us know what happens.
