Dear Dr.Char, I need help with my diabetic and recently diagnosed acute pancreatitis cat, Princess. I know you may hear this all the time but she is the best cat ever and the love of my life. Princess was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus in November 2005 after having an episode of hepatic lipidosis. She was hospitalized for 1 week and was luckily saved by a 24 hour facility in my area. It cost me $10,000 dollars but she is worth that and then some. She was hospitalized a second time around three months later with another episode of hl but I made the hospital stabilize her put the feeding tube in so I could care for her at home and it has not happened again because I had researched food and tested her everyday twice a day since these episodes. I did a ton of research on food and diabetes and switched all of my cats from dry to grain free gluten free food after all of this and after losing my cat, Pidds to gastric lymphoma. Now I am here looking for answers and an honest true remedy. Two weeks ago princess was just not acting herself and I took her to her feline only vet who did urinalysis, full blood work and the test for pancreatitis which is sent to Texas A&M. My vet said everything was normal and I said that cannot be she needs an ultrasound. She said well you can if you want. This happened noonday June 2nd well Tuesday I was at the animal hospital at 6:00 am and Princess was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and possible bile obstruction due to pancreatitis. She was given I've fluid, fasted for 24 hours and prescribed 1/2 tablet of Pepcid ac and tramadol upon discharge. She seemed better when I brought her home of course still not right but better. A few days later she acted not herself brought her in again for recheck and it was she is ok. She is still not right. I took her to a homeopathic vet yesterday who said take her off lantus insulin so she can prescribe a natural remedy. Yes, I would love to do that but not until my follow up to be certain pancreatitis is resolved. I need help desperately. I love Princess and her life is in my hands. Please help me to help her. I need to help her and I feel insane at this moment. Please help me help my baby! A loving cat mom!

Dear Heather,

You can use DIA-IONX along with insulin. It might make Princess feel better. I usually suggest splitting the dose so that you would give 10 drops on the breakfast food and 10 drops on the supper food. Are you feeding only canned? Is the water free of Chlorine?

Best regards,

Dr. Char
