Dr. Char I've written to you before about my cat Tony. I've had him on Dia-IonX for about a year now and he's steadily been getting of insulin. He started on Dia-IonX when he was taking 7u 2x/day of insulin. This past December after a vet visit he was decreased from 4 1/2 to 3 1/2u 2x/day and in February his sugar was 153. The vet was amazed and he was lowered again to 2u 2x/day. He started throwing up this past week. The vet said his sugar is now probably too low and the body is compensating by getting rid of the food. I gave him Karo syrup and he seemed to be fine otherwise and he stopped throwing up. I've not had him on insulin now for a couple days. This morning he ate and then threw up again and then started playing. He seems fine otherwise. I'm bringing him to the vet to check his sugar level, but I wanted to get your opinion on this. Is this a normal reaction for getting off insulin using Dia-IonX? Thank you Karen

Dear Karen,

If the blood sugar level dips too low the vomiting reflex might occur. It will be interesting to find out if he will need one unit twice daily for a while. DIA-IONX should not cause the blood sugar to go below normal.

Please let us know what the results are.

Best regards,

Dr. Char www.vetionx.com
