My 9 month old Chow Chow has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. My vet told me the only option she had would be surgery. She is only 9 months old; I'm really reluctant to have her go through a large surgery like this and would like to have her in medical treatment. Can you please tell me if I put her on Arthro-IonX, does she have to take it for the rest of her life? This product mentioned it is all-natural, is it still going to affect her life if she has to take it in long run?

Please let me know.

Dear Isabelle,

Arthro-IonX would be a good product for your dog. It helps to relieve symptoms as well as stimulate healing of the joint. It is natural and safe to combine with other medications because it is homeopathic in nature and does not contain large molecules that can interact negatively with other substances. Arthro-IonX can be used long-term if need be, without causing gastric-irritation or liver damage which can occur with NSAID use.

I would suggest you do few other things to improve the outcome. Feed digestive enzymes with meals, and give probiotics and fish oil daily. What kind of food do you give? I would also seek an evaluation by a certified veterinary chiropractor. Making sure weight is distributed properly can help with joint formation and provide pain relief.

It is hard to say how long you will need to give Arthro-IonX without knowing your dog, but a small maintenance dose would be safe if you chose to do so. Please let us know how you progress and we would be pleased to help you meet your goals for your dog.

Best wishes,
Dr. Char
