My cat has small black sand-like particles on his mid-back down to his tail. When I brush him, these come off with his fur. They seem to be alive, when I get them wet they turn bloody. No one I know has ever heard of such a thing. This cat is a 'hand-me-down', and I am a low-income woman. Although this cat (Yoda) was left with me by my daughter - and I'm not very attached to him, but I don't want him to suffer! He is about 8 or 9 yrs old. Please help me determine what to do! Much thanks! Linda

Dear Linda,

I think the specks might be flea debris. There is blood in it which is why it turns the paper pink when it is wetted. Have you used a flea comb on him? Are you able to bathe him safely?

Best regards,
