We moved from Washington state to Arizona 6 months ago with our 2 year old cat. Not long after the move, we noticed that she was licking her fur off. When the loss was about 4" long x@ 1" down, I took her to a vet - he said it could be allergies or stress. There are no sores or redness. It has gotten worse, to the point that she has almost no fur on either side from her shoulders back or on her back legs, just a strip down her back like a Mohawk. Is it possible that this could be dry skin from moving from VERY SOGGY Pacific NW down to VERY DRY Phoenix? If so, is there any kind of oil or something that we could put on her skin to help it not be so dry and itchy?

Dear Vikki,

You might want to look at some of our products to help heal the skin. Derma-IonX which is an oral homeopathic product stimulates the enzyme systems in the body which reduces inflammation, promotes healing of the skin and helps with assimilation of nutritional components in diet and supplements. The supplements I use along with it include probiotics and Omega 3,6,9. Together with Derma-IonX it produces a synergistic effect for a faster response. I would also suggest that you give your cat only filtered water for drinking and bathing if your water contains chlorine or fluoride. For the dietary modifications you might want to try a grain free diet for a while. The protein sources I would use are fish or turkey since these are considered to be cooling according to Chinese food therapy.

Defendex shampoo which is nontoxic washes away debris and soothes the skin. However, I would only try this if your cat is very cooperative.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions. Please let us know what response you get so we can help guide you in this process.

Best wishes,
