Health Questions & Answers

Have been giving my 12 year old aussie/lab mix your probiotic. I was considering some of your other products but was concerned to see that you use canola oil (deadly to animals) in your products. May I ask, why! With so many products to be concerned about on the market, now this?

Dear Jo,

We checked with the formulator as to why they use Canola rather than some other oil. They have reviewed the studies that have created a bad reputation for Canola oil.

All of the studies have used Canola at 10% of the diet and used stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive (SHRSP) rats. The amount used in the Vetionx products is much lower than that. Before being approved for food use, canola oil was required to go through stringent animal feeding trials to ensure it was a safe edible oil. A great deal of research has shown the benefits of incorporating canola oil into human and animal diets. It was shown to be beneficial for cardiac disease and for colon cancer. I have given it to my own dogs as it is an ingredient in their dietary supplement and they have not had any problems with it. If canola oil used in this amount was a problem I would think we would have seen evidence of this by now due to the number of pets that have taken it. I hope this alleviates your concern.

Best regards,

Dr. Char
