Health Questions & Answers

My Rusty, a 91/2 year old Pomeranian, was diagnosed with diabetes in December 2013. He is now receiving Vetsulin injection twice a day. The Vet just increased it to 11 units using a U-40 syringe. Is there anything that can be done other than this trial and error approach to get his insulin injections stabilized? Also, what is the best food that he should be eating to help with his diabetic condition? Thank you for your time and help, Jim

Dear James,

Finding the correct insulin dose is trial and error. It is is influenced by many lifestyle factors. Along with giving insulin I would suggest you try DIA-IONX because it helps to control the symptoms of diabetes and it's therapeutic mineral base helps activate the enzyme systems in the body that help with healing. Some owners have told us it has helped stabilize the blood glucose levels. After giving DIA-IONX for a while some owners have reported that they have been able to reduce the insulin dosage and some have been able to stop giving it because it was no longer needed. However, each patient is unique and has its own set of circumstances. One cannot stop giving insulin until the body no longer requires it. In addition I like to give probiotics and Omega 3,6,9 daily. DIA-IONX will help the body better utilize the other supplements for a synergistic response. In addition make sure that you offer sufficient water free of chlorine and free of fluoride. A regular exercise schedule is also helpful in moving glucose from the blood and into the muscles which will reduce the blood glucose. It is important that you monitor the blood glucose levels so that you can ask your veterinarian about adjusting the insulin dosage when necessary.

Your veterinarian will probably prescribe a low carbohydrate, high fiber diabetic diet. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Best wishes,

Dr. Char
